A Billings man has been charged with raping a woman in the backyard of his Heights home.
Andre Deryck Mathis, 46, is scheduled for arraignment in Yellowstone County District Court on Wednesday. Charged Feb. 5 in justice court with aggravated assault, Mathis now faces a sexual intercourse without consent charge as well.
Justice of the Peace David Carter set bond at $100,000 and required GPS monitoring if Mathis is released.
The incident took place at Mathis’ Heights home, on the 100 block of Bohl Avenue, according to the original charges. Neighbors called 911 to report the incident, providing various details about what they witnessed, including that they heard a woman screaming and saw Mathis beating and raping her.
Mathis denied having sex with the woman, but said he might have tried to strangle her, adding that it was his “'signature move,' that he has been grabbing women by the throat to cut off their air so they are quiet,” charges state.
The woman was taken to Billings Clinic for a Sexual Assault Nurse Exam, or rape kit.
