A Powell, Wyoming, man was arrested and charged with second-degree murder Saturday morning, after calling police to report the death of his wife from an apparent gunshot wound, according to the Park County Sheriff's Office.

David Eugene Williamson, 64, called 911 on Saturday at 4:42 a.m. and allegedly stated that his "wife is dead, send the cops," the Wyoming sheriff's office stated in a Monday press release.

When deputies arrived at his residence they found Williamson "calmly sitting on the front porch," according to the sheriff's office.

"When asked what was going on, Williamson replied, 'Go inside, you will see. She is in the bedroom,'" the release stated. "A subsequent search of the residence revealed Williamson’s wife, Shirley Williamson, age 65, lying dead on a bed in the back bedroom with an apparent gunshot wound to the right side of her head. A semi-automatic handgun was lying on the bed at her feet."

Williamson was subsequently arrested and charged, and is currently being held in the Park County Detention Center without bond, said public affairs officer Lance Mathess.

The alleged murder is the second this month in the Powell area, which had a population of 11,257 as of the 2010 Census. On Aug. 7, county deputies responded to a pair of deaths believed to be a murder-suicide just outside the town.
