BUTTE — Butte High math teacher Amanda Curtis on Wednesday announced her candidacy for House District 74.
Although the first day for candidates to file for office with the Secretary of State isn’t until Jan. 14, Curtis filed a statement of candidacy with the Commissioner of Political practices, meaning she can campaign and raise money for the June and November 2016 elections, she said in a prepared statement.
Curtis served in the 2013 Legislature but did not run for re-election in 2014 due to redistricting. House District 74 is held by Representative Pat Noonan, who is term limited. Curtis ran an 80-day campaign for U.S. Senate in 2014 after John Walsh dropped out of the race.
Although various sources speculated that Curtis might run for a statewide office in 2016, Curtis said she is excited to remain in Butte and to represent the Butte values of “working hard and telling the truth” in the Montana Legislature.
