The Annex Coffee House and Bakery at 2601 Minnesota Ave. has opened. The shop is a joint venture with the next door Fieldhouse.

The bakery specializes in scratch-made desserts, sandwiches, coffee and especially bread.

All of the doughs take two or three days to prepare, said head baker, Jeff Birkholz-Wilkerson.

The bread is steamed and baked on stone, he said, and the sourdough starter has been fermenting for more than a year.

Fieldhouse chef Ben Harmon and his wife Krystal Harmon own and manage the bakery.
