Dr. Chris Hirt and dental assistant Jessica Noble from Turley Dental Care do a filling for a patient Friday. Ninety-two low-income Billings residents in need of dental care received free treatment on Friday through the Thanksgiving Give Back a Smile Project. Applications were reviewed and appointments made with 16 local dentists who volunteered their time, equipment and supplies. All of the 92 available appointments were filled quickly. The last time the program was offered in Billings, 75 people received 130 procedures in 99 dental-service hours. The donated services were valued at more than $40,000. According to RiverStone Health, a 2006 survey in Yellowstone County indicated that 64 percent of respondents had not visited a dentist in the previous year and that 85 percent were in need of dental care.
