A Billings man accused of possessing cocaine for distribution denied federal charges today. Matthew Lamonaca, 31, pleaded not guilty to an information charging him with possessing more than 500 grams of cocaine with intent to distribute on Sept. 9.
During an arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn Ostby, Lamonaca waived his right to be charged by a grand jury. If convicted, Lamonaca faces a minimum mandatory five years to 40 years in prison and a maximum $2 million fine. Ostby continued Lamonaca’s release on conditions until trial. The case will be heard by Senior U.S. District Judge Jack Shanstrom.
