Equestrian team plans horse show on Sunday
The Rocky Mountain College Equestrian Team will host a horse show beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Intermountain Equestrian Center, 7265 Highway 3.
The show will feature seven classes: Western horsemanship (judges the rider), western pleasure (judges the horse), reining, hunt seat equitation (English, judges the rider), hunt seat under saddle (English, judges the horse), a walk/trot class for riders looking to gain show experience in a low pressure situation and the Ride-a-Buck class, said Meredith Burton, captain of the RMC team.
“Some of the events are fun as well as instructional, like the Ride-a-Buck, where a dollar bill is placed between the saddle and the knee, and the goal is to not let the dollar drop,” she said.
Judge for the show is Emily McGeachy, a 2010 graduate of Rocky’s equestrian program.
The RMC team members will operate a concession stand and accept donations to raise money for the team travel expenses to competitions in Montana, Idaho and Utah. The team is also seeking sponsors.
