MORNING REPORT:

Local health officials plan to vaccinate up to 1,200 people today for the H1N1 influenza virus.

Inoculations will begin at 1 p.m. at the Shrine Auditorium in the sixth walk-in clinic organized by RiverStone Health, the county health agency. Vaccinations will be given until 7 p.m. or until the vaccine supply runs out. Last week, the 1,500 doses that were available were administered by 7 p.m.

Vaccinations are limited to pregnant women, caregivers of or people who live with children younger than 6 months old, healthy people from 6 months to 24 years old, health care and emergency services personnel, and people age 25 to 64 with chronic medical conditions are eligible for the vaccine. The priority groups were selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention based on data showing that people in those populations were most at risk of falling seriously ill or dying from H1N1 flu infection.

County health authorities plan to hold booster clinics next month for children who need second doses of the H1N1 vaccine. Children younger than 10 who received a dose of flu mist need a second dose no sooner than 28 days after the first one. Some children who received an injected vaccine also need a booster. Reminders cards will be mailed to children who need second doses.
