The name of a Billings soldier killed in the Korean War, which was misspelled on the Veterans Memorial Wall, was corrected Tuesday, Yellowstone County Commissioner Bill Kennedy said.

Pfc. Wilbur John Robinson, who died in Korea in 1951 while serving in the Army, was added along with six other soldiers killed in that war. His name was previously misspelled as “Willard” on the granite wall that sits on the Yellowstone County Courthouse lawn.

Kennedy said Billings Monument sandblasted the name into the monument and that he let family members know it had been changed.

Wilbur’s brother, Ivory Robinson, said he was happy to see the change made after he first noticed it four years ago.

“That changed everything right there,” he said. “My grandkids called me up and thought that was pretty neat. That’s just fine, that’s all I wanted.”
