Students win peace essay awards

A Rocky Mountain College student from Mongolia and a West High student have won the top Edith Gronhovd Peace Essay Awards.

Anudari Batjargal won the college level for her essay “Peacemaking Games.” Caitlin Koski was first-place winner in the high school level for “Holocaust Revisionism: The Assault on Thought and Community.”

Other college-level winners were: Fabiano Jacome, second place; Andris Varhelyi and Jing YI Yuanm tied for third place; and Janie Rife, honorable mention, all of Rocky Mountain College.

High school winners were: Becca Zabawa, second; and Cole Krenik, third, both of West High.

Students win $200 for first place, $100 for second and $50 for third.

The Institute for Peace Studies at RMC sponsors the awards that will be given Friday during the Jeannette Rankin Ceremony at the Alberta Bair Theater. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. Marietta Jaeger Lane of Three Forks will be honored with the Rankin Peace Award.
