A small fire at PPL Montana's Corette power plant had burned itself out even before Billings firefighters arrived at the plant Tuesday afternoon.

Acting Battalion Chief Larry Hart said five engine companies responded to the plant along the Yellowstone River near South 27th Street shortly before 5 p.m.

Hart said PPL was doing some construction on an upper level of the plant's main structure when some insulation caught on fire.

It was smoldering when firefighters arrived, he said, and "we dribbled a little water on it." Hart said damage was minimal.
