A single-vehicle accident Friday five miles east of Wibaux killed two Billings women and seriously injured another.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Glenn Quinnell said Desiree Dawn Jansen, 21, died at the scene at 8:40 a.m., and Miranda Irene Jansen, 19, died several hours later at a hospital in Bismarck, N.D., at about 3:30 p.m. Both women were pregnant, Quinnell said.
Their mother, Marie Cody Jansen, 55, is in serious condition at a Dickinson, N.D., hospital.
MHP said the occupants were traveling eastbound in a GMC Envoy on Interstate 94 at 8:40 a.m. Icy conditions caused the driver, Marie Jansen, to lose control of the vehicle. The Envoy went into a driver’s side skid causing the car to roll off the south side of the highway.
Both Desiree Jansen and Miranda Jansen were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the car. Desiree Jansen died at the scene.
Miranda and Marie Jansen were transported by ambulance to Dickinson. Later, Miranda Jansen was flown to Bismarck by helicopter where she was pronounced dead.
Marie Jansen, who was wearing a seat belt, remains in serious condition.
