Two candidates are being recommended for appointment as Yellowstone County auditor, including the county’s retired former finance director.

Scott Turner, who retired as finance director after serving 28 years with the county, and Brock Ullom, are the top two candidates from a committee who review six applicants for the job.

The committee, composed of Dan Schwarz, chief civil deputy county attorney, Dwight Vigness, human resources director, and Kevin Gillen a deputy county attorney, made the recommendation on Monday to the county commissioners.

The commissioners are expected to interview Turner and Ullom at their discussion meeting on Dec. 11.

The committee reviewed and scored each candidate based on related education and experience and non-related experience and education.

Commissioners will be appointing a new auditor to fill the position that was vacated when Debby Hernandez retired on Nov. 30.

Whoever is appointed will have to run for election in 2018 to retain the four-year position. The annual salary is $69,721.
