The Yellowstone County Coroner's Office identified on Saturday 61-year-old Jeanne Charter as the woman who died in a three-vehicle crash on Friday north of Billings.

Yellowstone County Sheriff's Lt. Bill Jones said Charter died of severe blunt force trauma.

The crash happened Friday afternoon on Highway 87 North, near the Yellowstone-Musselshell county line, at about 4:40 p.m. According to the Montana Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Suburban and a Toyota pickup truck, driven by Charter, were northbound on 87 when the ran into each other.

The collision pushed both vehicles into the southbound lane, where a Ford F350 pulling a horse trailer ran into the Toyota, a highway patrol incident narrative said.

Charter, from the Shepherd area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chevy's driver, a 40-year-old Musselshell County woman, was flown by St. Vincent Healthcare's HELP Flight helicopter, and was recovering at St. Vincent's Friday night.

The Ford's driver and a young girl who was a passenger suffered minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
