Bond was set Thursday at $30,000 for a Billings man accused of head-butting his wife and twice assaulting his 9-year-old stepson.
Scott Eugene Baum, 38, appeared in Yellowstone County Justice Court by video from the county jail on two counts of felony assault on a minor and a misdemeanor charge of partner or family member assault.
Judge Pedro Hernandez set the bond after a prosecutor said Baum is wanted on an outstanding warrant for a felony DUI charge filed last year.
State prison records show Baum has a 2007 felony DUI conviction in Lewis and Clark County.
Baum was ordered to appear Tuesday for arraignment in District Court.
According to court records, Baum is accused of becoming angry at his stepson on Sept. 15 because Baum could not find the toothpaste. He is accused of forcing the boy's legs into his chest until the child had trouble breathing.
Later that day, the woman said, Baum was sleeping and she was doing laundry when he was awakened by the dryer. Baum cursed at her and head-butted her in the face, the woman said.
Still later that day, Baum became angry at the boy again. Prosecutors allege Baum flipped him off a bed by grabbing the mattress and stomped on the boy's chest.
