A 22-year-old Billings man admitted Tuesday that he tried to elude a sheriff's deputy while driving with a blood alcohol level more than four times the legal limit.

Kelton Richard Smith pleaded guilty Tuesday to a felony charge of criminal endangerment and misdemeanor counts of aggravated DUI, fleeing or eluding a peace officer and obstruction.

Yellowstone County District Judge Russell Fagg set sentencing for Dec. 10.

Smith admitted that he was driving on Aug. 10 when he went the wrong direction in a roundabout on Shiloh Road and nearly collided head on with a sheriff's patrol car.

Smith sped away when the deputy tried to stop his vehicle, and a chase lasted until Smith stopped and tried to run away. The deputy used a Taser to stop Smith.

A breath sample showed Smith had a blood alcohol level of 0.385 percent, more than four times the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
