An 18-year-old Billings man accused of shooting a pistol at a female relative who confronted him during a family gathering was charged Wednesday in Yellowstone County Justice Court.

Bond was set at $25,000 for Bobby Joe Garcia, who appeared in court by video on felony charges of assault with a weapon and criminal endangerment.

Prosecutors said Garcia fired numerous times in the direction of his aunt outside a residence on Third Avenue South after the woman confronted him during a family gathering at about 9 p.m.

The woman accused Garcia of having sexual relations with another family member who is a minor, court records state.

Garcia left the house, and his aunt followed him outside where the shooting occurred, court records state. Garcia was arrested nearby, and police said they found a pistol and nine .45-caliber shell casings at the scene.

No one was injured in the shooting.

A prosecutor said Garcia is awaiting trial on a felony drug possession charge filed last month. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges Jan. 4 in District Court.
