The Billings Police Department on Thursday continued its investigation into a Wednesday evening incident that landed a man in the hospital after his father-in-law shot him in the stomach during an argument.

Police Chief Rich St. John identified the victim as Daniel Raber, 53, and the shooter as Dale Fosjord, 76.

Raber drove himself to Billings Clinic after the shooting, police said. A hospital spokeswoman said he wasn't on the patient roster as of 2 p.m. Thursday.

St. John said that no arrests had been made as of 1:30 p.m. because police were still looking into who the instigator was and whether the shooting was in self-defense.

Investigators are looking at the shooting as a possible domestic-violence case since the two men are related.

The shooting happened at about 9 p.m. Wednesday at 1135 O'Malley Drive during an argument between Raber and Fosjord, police said.

County property tax records show the house is owned by a woman with the last name Fosjord, and St. John said that Dale Fosjord lives there.
