A man accused of leaving a handprint on the back of his girlfriend’s 5-year-old son made an initial court appearance Monday on a charge of felony assault on a minor.
Arron Michael Johnson, 24, appeared on the charge before Justice Court Judge David A. Carter.
According to court documents, an officer arrested Johnson after responding Friday to a residence on the 3900 block of Olympic Boulevard.
A woman told an officer that she had left her son with her boyfriend to go to a laundromat. When she got back, she found her son in bed crying under the covers.
Her son said Johnson had hit him on the back, she reported. The woman photographed the red handprint and showed the photo to police.
Officers spoke to Johnson, who said he had been sitting on the floor drinking a can of soda and that the boy had been sitting on the couch behind him. Johnson said the boy kicked him in the head.
“The jolt from the kick caused the can to strike the defendant’s teeth causing a slight chip,” charging documents say.
Johnson admitted to police that he “lost it” and hit the boy, who was only wearing a diaper at the time.
