An inmate died at the Montana State Prison on Monday evening.

According to a news release from Linda Moodry, the prison’s public information officer, Matthew Lawrence Demary, 47, collapsed Monday night near the officer station of the prison’s Work Re-Entry Center. He was taken to a hospital and declared dead.

Moodry said Demary’s death doesn’t appear to be suspicious and an official cause of death has not yet been released.

“His death was unexpected and an autopsy will be performed by the state medical examiner,” she said.

A judge in Richland County sentenced Demary to 300 months in prison in 2002 for sexual intercourse without consent in June of 2001.

Also in 2002, he was sentenced in Richland County for two counts of sexual assault and one count of tampering with witnesses or informants.
