A 53-year-old man who police say bit his wife on the stomach and kicked her in the back has been charged with felony partner or family member assault.

Joel Robert Gonzalez appeared in Yellowstone County Justice Court, where Judge Pro Tem Kent Koolen sent bond at $10,000.

Koolen also ordered Gonzalez to participate in 24/7 sobriety monitoring.

When officers arrested Gonzalez on Sunday, a breath test showed that he had a blood alcohol content of .30, charging documents say, nearly four times the legal limit for driving.

Police arrested him after responding to a disturbance report at the Bourbon Street Motel, 3314 First Ave. N.

The man’s wife told police that Gonzalez kicked her in the back, pulled her hair, threatened to kill her and bit her on the stomach, court documents say.

Gonzalez has a lengthy criminal record that includes a 2007 manslaughter conviction in Utah, a prior assault conviction and three previous domestic abuse convictions, according to prosecutors.
