A 20-year-old man admitted Friday to having a sexual relationship with a girl, who was 14 years old at the time, from July 2012 to May 2013.

Appearing before District Court Judge Ingrid Gustafson, Robert Mitchell Lindsay pleaded guilty to felony sexual intercourse without consent.

According to court records, the girl told police in May 2013 she had been in a relationship with Lindsay for about a year and they started having sex in July 2012, when she was 14 and Lindsay was 18.

The girl also reported Lindsay repeatedly hit her during their relationship.

Lindsay admitted to the sexual relationship when interviewed by police, court records state. He also stated he knew the girl’s age, but denied hitting the girl except for a game they played called “Slug Bug.”

A police detective said the girl’s mother had made several prior reports expressing concern that her daughter and Lindsay were in a sexual relationship.

The woman also reported she observed bruises on her daughter, and she believed Lindsay was responsible for the injuries.

Lindsay is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 10.
