A man prosecutors say has three prior domestic assault convictions appeared in court Tuesday on a felony partner or family member assault charge, alleging he beat his wife on Monday.
Cleve Michael Riggins, 49, appeared by video from the county jail in Yellowstone County Justice Court, where Judge David A. Carter set the man's bond at $20,000.
Police arrested Riggins on Monday after responding to an assault reported on the 300 block of South 33rd Street, according to charging documents.
When an officer responded, the alleged victim said Riggins, her husband of three years, had been drinking and assaulted her.
The woman told police that Riggins hit her in the face, called her stupid and yelled at her, grabbed her head and shook it and then knocked over a coffee table when she said she was calling police.
The woman said she had thought Riggins would kill her and that he threatens or assaults her about once a month.
According to prosecutors, Riggins has three prior domestic assault convictions.
He is scheduled to enter a plea to the charge June 23 in District Court.
