A man is dead and a Yellowstone County sheriff's deputy is on administrative leave after a shooting in Lockwood on Saturday night.

Yellowstone County Sheriff Mike Linder said deputies were called to a home for "suspicious activity" on Canary Avenue in Lockwood just before 10 p.m. A news release said the first deputy to arrive called for backup after shots were fired.

The release said a "male subject" died and that the exact cause of death is still under investigation.

"Names are not being released at this time because it's an ongoing investigation and there hasn't been an autopsy at this point," Linder said on Sunday afternoon.

Linder would not release the age of the man, or any other details related to the shooting.

Linder said the deputy involved is on paid administrative leave.
