A Billings man who was arrested in May on suspicion of his sixth drunken-driving offense was sentenced Thursday for his fifth.

Daniel Edward Turnsplenty, 35, was sentenced by District Judge Susan Watters to 13 months with the Montana Department of Corrections and five years of probation. Watters also ordered Turnsplenty to enter treatment and fined him $1,000.

She also sentenced him to six months in the Yellowstone County Detention Facility, with all but 10 days suspended, and ordered him to pay a $1,000 fine for driving with a revoked or suspended license and a $500 fine for disorderly conduct. Those will run concurrent to the DUI sentence.

Turnsplenty was arrested in February on the DUI charge after he became angry at a family gathering at a Billings hotel, pulled a fire alarm and left.

He was accused of his sixth DUI in May after his wife called police twice over an hour to report that he was driving drunk and that she was worried.

Before the sentencing, Turnsplenty apologized to the court, his family and his friends for being "so careless and selfish" and said he looked forward to getting help.
