A persistent felony offender appeared in Yellowstone County District Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to a felony burglary charge.

Lawrence Eugene Speldrich Jr., 23, admitted to Judge Russell Fagg that on June 4, 2012, he entered a West End house through an unlocked door and stole about $8,900 in cash.

Fagg ordered Speldrich to appear before Judge G. Todd Baugh for sentencing on Jan. 27.

Speldrich has previous burglary convictions in Richland and Dawson counties, according to public records.

In May, Speldrich was arrested after running away from a courtroom in Sidney.

He bolted from the Richland County Courthouse during a scheduled court appearance on drug charges, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

Once he escaped the courthouse, police began an extensive search and all four schools in Sidney were locked down for more than two hours.

Speldrich was found in an alley behind a business in Sidney, according to the sheriff’s office.

Information on the status of that case was not immediately available Tuesday.
