Police responding to a disturbance Thursday on Lake Elmo Drive spoke with a woman who said her boyfriend, who had marijuana plants in a back bedroom, choked her until she passed out, court records say.

The man, 29-year-old Casey James Pater, appeared Friday in Yellowstone County Justice Court on counts of aggravated assault and criminal production of drugs.

Police arrested Pater on Thursday after responding to a residence on the 2000 block of Lake Elmo Drive.

An officer found marijuana plants under a light in a back bedroom, charging documents state.

Police also found several marijuana pipes and collected six young marijuana plants and materials that could be used to grow and sell marijuana, charging documents say.

The woman, who refused medical help, told police Pater shoved her in the face several times and then grabbed her by the throat, choking her until she passed out.

A Justice Court Judge set bond at $7,500 and ordered Pater to appear for arraignment in District Court on Aug. 19.
