A Billings man accused of raping a woman in April was arraigned Friday in Yellowstone County District Court.
Kogan J. Santiago, 24, appeared before Judge Ingrid Gustafson and pleaded not guilty to felony sexual intercourse without consent. He was allowed to remain free pending trial on a posted $30,000 bond.
According to court records, a woman called police on April 7 to report that she had been raped by a man at a Billings residence.
The woman said several people had gathered at the residence and were drinking heavily. The woman said she was sexually assaulted by a man after everyone else had passed out or gone to sleep.
The woman said the man left the residence in a car, which prosecutors said was seen by officers returning to the residence as they spoke with the woman.
The car made a sudden U-turn and sped off before officers could stop it, court records state.
Officers located Santiago at an apartment later that morning. He told officers he had gone to two casinos the previous night and then went straight home.
Officers got a warrant to collect DNA, court record state, and an analysis by the state crime lab determined DNA consistent with the woman's DNA was present on the samples taken from Santiago.
