Stacey Dean Rambold, a former Billings high school teacher who received a one-month prison sentence for having sex

with a 14-year-old student, is scheduled to be sentenced at the end of September.

The office of District Judge Randal Spaulding, of Roundup, confirmed Wednesday that Rambold will be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 26.

The case has drawn international attention because of the one-month-prison sentence issued by Yellowstone County District Judge G. Todd Baugh and because of the comments he made about the victim, who committed suicide.

“It was a troubled youth, but a youth who was probably as much in control of the situation as the defendant, one that was seemingly, although troubled, older than her chronological age,” Baugh said of the girl at Rambold’s sentencing.

The Montana Supreme Court ordered suspension and public censure for Baugh over the comments he made.

In an order issued in April, the high court also reversed the one-month sentence he gave Rambold and sent the case back to Yellowstone County District Court

for re-sentencing.

District Judge Mary Jane McCalla Knisely was randomly selected to preside over the case, but she and all other Yellowstone County District judges recused themselves from hearing the case.

Judge George “Jerry” Huss of the 16th Judicial District initially agreed to hear the case, but then also recused himself, prompting Knisely to reassign Rambold’s case to Judge Spaulding.
