Yellowstone County Sheriff Mike Linder said authorities are seeking the public's help in locating a suspect in a murder Friday morning in Lockwood.

The suspect is identified as Martin Jon Pond, also known as Martin J. Bouwkamp Jr., 27. Pond is described as white, six feet tall, 180 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

Linder said Pond may be driving a gray Honda Odyssey van with Montana plate 316120B. Pond should be considered armed and dangerous. The sheriff cautioned the public not to approach him.

Anyone with information should call the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office at 406-256-2929 or your local law enforcment agency, Linder said.

Pond is listed on the state Department of Corrections website as being on probation in Billings as of Dec. 30, 2013.

Yellowstone County Sheriff Mike Linder said the shooting of a man in Lockwood Friday morning is being investigated as a homicide.

Officers secured the scene in the 3400 block of Wasco Avenue, obtained a search warrant and are conducting an investigation. No one had been taken into custody as of early Friday afternoon, he said.

Linder would not identify the victim, saying family members are still being notified.

The call of gunshots in the neighborhood came in at 4:20 a.m. on Friday, the sheriff said. The caller reported hearing as many as four gunshots in the area.

A second caller reported that a person had been shot, Linder said.

When deputies arrived they found an unresponsive man outside of the residence, Linder said. Medical responders attented to the victim, who died at the scene, he said.

There also were reports of a disturbance outside of a residence, Linder said.

A nearby resident, Shari Widdicombe, of 3413 Tigard Ave., said she was awakened as a train was passing and at about the same time heard three booms.

"Oh great, I hope that wasn't a gun," she said she remembered thinking.

"I heard three shots," Widdicombe said.

Widdicombe, whose home is next door to the residence that is the focus of the investigation, said a man lived at the residence. "People would come and go," she said.
