A 19-year-old admitted Friday that he stabbed a man on the South Side of Billings in December 2012.

Dean Edwin Vandersloot, 19, appeared in Yellowstone County District Court and pleaded guilty to felony assault with a weapon.

On Dec. 17, 2012, police were called to the area of State Avenue and Orchard Lane for a report of a stabbing, and they found a man covered with blood who said he'd been stabbed by a man named Dean.

Charging documents say the victim was treated at the Billings Clinic Intensive Care Unit.

Detectives later spoke with the victim, who told police that Vandersloot attacked him, slicing his scalp, straddling him on the ground and stabbing him numerous times.

The man reported that he didn't know why it happened, although he thought it had to do with a motorbike and drugs, the charging documents state. The man also identified Vandersloot in a photo lineup.

Vandersloot is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 12.
