The man charged with stabbing 66-year-old Michael Scanlon Sample to death in downtown Billings on June 19 is scheduled to go to trial at the end of October.
Zachariah James Wiseman, 23, pleaded not guilty last week to deliberate homicide with a weapons enhancement in the stabbing. An order filed at the end of last week scheduled his trial for Oct. 29.
Charging documents say Wiseman was high when he stabbed Sample three times shortly before 1:30 p.m. June 19 at the Fargo Hotel building, where Sample worked.
Billings attorneys Kris Copenhaver and Fred Snodgrass are representing Wiseman, court records indicate, and County Attorney Scott Twito is prosecuting the case.
Wiseman remains in custody with bond set at $500,000.
