A woman denied Monday in District Court walking away from a Billings prerelease center in December.

Michelle Peterson, 26, appeared before Judge Gregory R. Todd and denied a charge of felony escape.

Information provided by the Montana Department of Corrections said Peterson walked away from the Passages Women's Program in Billings last Dec. 22.

Peterson was serving a five-year sentence from 2012 for criminal possession of dangerous drugs out of Lewis and Clark County. She entered the Passages program last Aug. 21.

According to the Yellowstone County Attorney's Office, authorities in Lewis and Clark County arrested Peterson on Jan. 8 on the escape warrant.

She appeared in court shackled, wearing a yellow Montana Women's Prison jumpsuit and escorted by jail staff.

Baugh continued bond in the amount of $20,000.

A trial date will be set later.

If convicted of escape, she faces an additional 10 years in state custody.
