Police say a customer at a Billings casino foiled a robbery attempt early Wednesday morning by tackling the would-be robber.
Robert Bruce Scollard was arrested at Nickels Casino & Grand Liquor, 825 Grand Ave., shortly after officers were called to a robbery attempt at 1:39 a.m., police Lt. Kevin Iffland said.
Scollard, 41, is being held in the county jail on a possible robbery charge. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
Iffland said Scollard is accused of walking into the bar with a mask on his face and demanding money. A patron inside the bar tackled the robber and held him down.
Iffland said the robber did not display a weapon, but a Leatherman tool was found on him after his arrest.
When officers arrived, the patron initially refused to release the suspect to officers. Iffland said the patron may have been intoxicated.
According to state prison records, Scollard has convictions in Yellowstone County for forgery, arson and theft.
Iffland said detectives will try to determine if Scollard is connected to other recent unsolved Billings casino robberies.
On Jan. 12, a man wearing a mask robbed the Maverick Casino on 14th Street West at gunpoint.
Colby's Casino on Fourth Avenue North was robbed by a man armed with a pistol last Nov. 16.
