A 19-year-old man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that he rammed the vehicle his pregnant girlfriend was in last September and then chased her down and beat her when she tried to run away.
John Joseph Caylon Jr. was arraigned Monday in Yellowstone County District Court on a felony charge of criminal endangerment and a misdemeanor count of partner or family member assault.
District Judge Gregory R. Todd set Caylon’s bond at $10,000.
According to charging documents, the pregnant woman and another alleged victim were in a Ford Bronco stopped at a gas station on South 27th Street when Caylon came up to the woman’s side of the vehicle, broke a window and started hitting her.
The alleged victims drove away, but Caylon pursued them in another vehicle, ramming them several times.
When the woman got out of the Bronco and tried to run away, Caylon knocked her to the ground and started beating her, prosecutors said.
An officer interviewed the woman while she was being treated at a Billings hospital.
She told the officer Caylon was the father of her child, and that he had told her he would kill her and her unborn child.
The officer saw the woman was covered in bruises, scrapes and cuts, according to prosecutors.
