A 40-year-old man is dead after being cut Saturday night in Laurel.

The incident occurred at 11:48 p.m. in the 700 block of East 1st Street, according to a press release from the Laurel Police Department.

A suspect has been booked into the Yellowstone County Detention Facility on suspicion of deliberate homicide, but has not been named.

A press release said the man suffered a “cutting injury.” What part of the man’s body was cut has not been released.

Paramedics transported the man to a Billings hospital by helicopter, but he died from his injuries.

The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting the LPD with the investigation. The Laurel Police Department was unavailable for further comment Sunday night.

Dennis Harmon, who lives at a building at the corner of Idaho and First, said he woke up around midnight Sunday to see the lights from police vehicles. He said he has lived in his apartment for 18 years, and that the incident happened at a building with six apartments across the street. Blood could be seen on the curb in front of the building.

The intersection of First and Idaho was closed most of the day as police processed the scene.
