Police lights

Morning rush-hour traffic in the Heights could be worse than normal Thursday, with traffic signals out at the intersection of Hilltop Road and Main Street after an early-morning car crash.

A Billings woman ran her car into the intersection's traffic control box at about 4:30 a.m., also taking out the First Interstate Bank sign, Billings Police Lt. Mark Cady said.

Detours are currently in place, but traffic will likely be backed up near the busy intersection for several hours until state officials finish repairing the equipment that controls the stoplights, he said.

The woman was taken to Billings Clinic with injuries that did not appear life-threatening, Cady said.

Police believe alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in the crash, he added, but no citations have been issued, pending the results of a blood test.
