The application deadline for the vacant Billings School District 2 board trustee seat closed Thursday. Two candidates applied for the open position, which will be filled for the next year until elections can be held.
Sara Neff and Rob Rogers applied for the open spot. In May, former school board member Lindy Graves resigned from the position because he accepted a job in South Dakota and would be moving away from the district.
Now the application process is closed and school district officials will appoint either Neff or Rogers to fill the seat for the next year.
Neff could not be reached for comment on Thursday afternoon.
Rogers, a former Billings Gazette education reporter, applied for the position because the opportunity was there.
“I have three girls in the district and I am passionate about their education,” Rogers said. “The school district is headed in the right direction and it’s important to keep it up.”
Rogers said that the school board’s relationship with the community is key.
“I hope that the school board can continue to keep up its relationship with the community,” Rogers said. “Transparency is vital and it’s important that the public can have that transparency with the board.”
