Twenty-three people have applied to be School District 2’s next superintendent, according to Bob Vogel with the Montana School Boards Association, which is conducting the search.
The application period closed Thursday.
The School District 2 board of trustees will begin screening the applicants at a meeting on Tuesday. Vogel said the applicants’ names won’t be released until at least then. He said board members have not been given the list yet.
Vogel said six of the applicants are from Montana, and of the other 17, at least three have direct ties to the state. He said there may be more as the MTSBA hasn’t reviewed all of the applications yet. Four applicants are female, Vogel said.
He described 23 applicants as “wonderful news.”
“We’ve been averaging probably 13 for the last number of years, sometimes it’s 18 and sometimes it’s 10. I was hoping for 12 to 15 for Billings,” he said.
