A former Montana State University Billings professor will head the school’s College of Business.

Barbara Wheeling, now associate dean of business at Emporia Sate University in Kansas, will become dean of the MSU Billings college July 1, the university announced Friday.

Wheeling has a bachelor’s degree in animal science from North Dakota State University and a master’s-of-business degree from the University of Wyoming. She earned her doctorate in accounting from the University of Alberta in Canada.

She taught at Colorado State University and Southern Utah University before coming to Billings in 2004. She taught at MSU Billings eight years, and during that time she helped the university become accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Interim deans have overseen the College of Business since May 2010, when former dean Gary Young became the university’s interim provost.

Wheeling will be introduced to the business community and alumni at a lunch at 11:30 a.m. July 2 at the MSU Billings Downtown campus.
