The Rocky Mountain College Babblin’ Bears collegiate speech and debate team started its competitive season with a big win at the Laramie County Community College tournament on September 25.
With over 10 schools attending the tournament, including Colorado College, Northwest College and Laramie County Community College, the RMC team brought home a win from sophomores Cherokee Rawls and Eddy Walsh in the varsity debate division.
Walsh also took home a second place speaker award for that division.
Sophomore Samuel Cornwaithe and freshman Randi O’Shea brought home a fifth place trophy from the novice division of debate after their break to quarterfinals.
O’Shea and Cornwaithe captured the second and fourth placed speaker awards in their division.
The RMC team was victorious in the speech events. Walsh placed third in Programmed Oral Interpretation. Justin Rife and Catherine Thiel placed fourth with their Duet Interpretation event.
The RMC forensics team returned to Billings with a second place overall sweepstakes trophy.
The Babblin’ Bears are at Casper College this weekend for their second tournament of the season.
