A former Senior High teacher accused of raping a 14-year-old student was arraigned Monday in District Court.

Stacey Dean Rambold, 49, appeared before Judge G. Todd Baugh on three felony counts of sexual intercourse without consent. Rambold was accompanied by Billings attorney Jay Lansing during the brief court hearing, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Rambold was allowed to remain free pending trial after previously posting a $25,000 bond. A trial date will be set later.

A former business and technology teacher, Rambold is accused of having a sexual relationship with a female student between October and December of last year. The girl reported the alleged relationship in April, and

Rambold was immediately placed on paid leave. He resigned from the school district in July and has since surrendered his Montana teaching certificate.

The girl reported that she had sexual contact with Rambold three times, including once in Rambold's office. Two other incidents are alleged to have occurred in Rambold's car and at his house.

Prosecutors filed the charges against Rambold on Oct. 31. He was arrested that day and booked into the county jail before posting the $25,000 bond amount set on the arrest warrant.

The rape charges carry a prison sentence of between four and 100 years if Rambold is convicted.
