The Park County Republican Party will not release the results of a straw poll conducted at its July 7 debate for Wyoming secretary of state and superintendent of public instruction candidates.
The party will not release final results of the poll to avoid embarrassing candidates who finished with particularly low scores, said Jo Walker, a spokeswoman for the Park County Republican Party.
The party did release the names of the winners of the two polls. Ed Buchanan led among the secretary of state candidates, and Sheryl Lain won the superintendent of public instruction poll.
Walker said Park County Republicans appreciated the time and effort taken by the candidates who traveled to Cody for the debate.
She said the party had no intention of embarrassing candidates over a simple straw poll.
Secretary of state candidates Buchanan, Clark Stith and Ed Murray participated in the debate for the state's second-highest office. Bill Winney, Jillian Balow and Lain participated in the superintendent debate.
Walker said the poll was meant to provide candidates with an understanding of the Park County public's concerns for the issues surrounding both offices.
She said the results of the poll were destroyed to avoid their release.
