The Heart and Sole Run will mark its 35th anniversary this year, and organizers are hoping for a record 3,500 participants.

The June 14 event includes a 2 Mile Health Walk, a 10K and the Road Runners Club of America State Championship 5K.

The Heart and Sole is the day before Father's Day, so organizers are hoping that families will participate together.

"For 35 years, the Heart and Sole race has grown in popularity; in recent years we have dialed it up a notch by partnering with other organizations to make it a destination-style event and a great way to kick off Father's Day weekend," said Dave Irion, president and CEO of St. Vincent Healthcare Foundation.

A family-friendly healthy living festival, the "Montana Active Life Festival," will take place after the race at Dehler Park featuring music, kid activities, food and family fun. Admission is free and open to the public.

People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part. Teams also are invited to participate again this year.

Participants will receive a micromesh T-shirt.

The Heart and Sole Run presenting sponsors are St. Vincent Physician Network Heart and Vascular Center and Billings Gazette Communications.

Proceeds from the race go to the YMCA Strong Community Campaign and BikeNet for the development of trails in Billings.

Registration is open at heartandsolerace.org.
