Laurel Hometown Troops seeks names and addresses of members of the armed forces who are stationed overseas, in order to send them holiday care packages.

On Nov. 4, volunteers from Laurel Hometown Troops and other volunteer organizations will pack and ship large boxes filled with small decorated Christmas trees, as well as books, puzzles, sausage, homemade fudge, huckleberry candy, peanuts and many other items for troops to enjoy during their holidays away from home.

Service members recommended for the packages do not need to be from Montana. Names and addresses, which are kept confidential, may be submitted by calling Ranae Marshall, president of Laurel Hometown Troops, at 698-4070.

The nonprofit organization began distributing holiday packages in 2003 and raises funds for the project by hosting various activities throughout the year, including a Valentine’s family dinner, Casino Night for adults, and the sale of candles for the “Salute to Our Troops” at Laurel’s annual Fourth of July celebration.

Monetary donations are also accepted all year. To donate a tax-deductible gift, send it to Laurel Hometown Troops, c/o Ranae Marshall, 204 Durland Ave., Laurel, MT 59044.
