A man was arrested after shooting a handgun at Pictograph Cave State Park on Tuesday afternoon, said Sheriff's Capt. Bill Michaelis.

The man had reportedly been yelling incoherently at the bushes and shooting a handgun, Michaelis said.

Sheriff's deputies were called at Pictograph Cave around 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Montana Highway Patrol also responded. Officers were able to secure the area and take cover behind a UPS vehicle in order to arrest the man.

Officers approached him and were able to apprehend him without incident, Michaelis said.

Pictograph Cave will be closed for the rest of the day, according to Jarret Kostrba, manager at Pictograph Cave State Park.

It will remain closed until the situation is resolved, Kostrba said.
