A motorcyclist was taken by ambulance from the scene after an accident on Highway 312 on Wednesday afternoon.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Dave Munson said the motorcyclist, whose name was not released, was talking to emergency responders at the scene, but his injuries appeared to be serious.

The motorcyclist was heading west on Highway 312. He lost control of his bike while trying avoid colliding with an SUV that was turning left in front of him onto 12 Mile Road.

Munson said the SUV driver had recently moved here from Lewistown and was unfamiliar with the traffic patterns. He will be cited with failure to yield.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. The accident was reported at about 4 p.m.
