Billings Mustangs pitcher Brennan Bernardino was the special guest storyteller at Reading Rocks at Central Park on Thursday.
Bernardino visited with kids before and after reading them the book "How I Spent My Summer Vacation."
Reading Rocks helps keep students reading over the summer, when reading levels are known to decline.
The program, open to students of all ages, provides volunteers to read with kids, and each participant takes home a book and a prize.
Reading Rocks has had a strong start this summer and has served over 700 kids so far, according to a release from the Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools, which organizes the program.
Reading Rocks is at North Park and Crow Arrowhead Park on Mondays, Central Park and Gorham Park on Tuesdays, North Park on Wednesdays, and Central Park and South Park on Thursdays.
Free lunches also are provided from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in these parks: Central Park, South Park, North Park, Gorham Park, Pioneer Park, Crow Park, Castle Rock Park and Bench Elementary.
