2 P.M.: Billings police have arrested David B. Isaacson, 41, of Billings, on suspicion of deliberate homicide in the shooting death of Sabah Mallak, 34, of Billings.
Mallak's body was found on the street in front a house on 1137 Galway Drive early Christmas Day after police received a report of gunshots being fired in the neighborhood of Galway Drive and Hawthorne Lane.
Police said investigators determined that Isaacson and Mallak knew each other.
Two vehicles were impounded for evidence, pending search warrants. A search warrant has also been issued for a home on Yellowstone River Road.
The investigation is ongoing.
11:10 A.M.: Billings police have recovered a firearm they believe was used in the fatal shooting of a man in a Heights neighborhood early Christmas Day.
Detective Casey Hafner said the Billings Fire Department's rope and rescue team found a revolver about 30 feet down a steep bank next to Yellowstone River Road shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday, across the road from the crime scene at 1137 Galway Drive.
Just before 1 a.m Tuesday, police responded to a report of gunshots fired at the intersection of Galway Drive and Hawthorne Lane, according to a BPD news release. Hawthorne Lane intersects with Yellowstone River Road.
Fire Capt. Ron Martin said Capt. Tim Stavnes was tied into a harness anchored to a fire truck frame and lowered down the steep slope toward the Yellowstone River. Stavnes used a camera, a global positioning system and a large magnet to recover the revolver.
"The gun was just hanging in weeds," Stavnes said.
Billings police continue the investigation.
INITIAL REPORT: Billings police are investigating the death of a man found on a Heights street early Christmas Day.
Just before 1 a.m Tuesday, police responded to a report of gunshots fired at the intersection of Galway Drive and Hawthorne Lane, according to a BPD news release.
Police found a man lying on the street in front of a house at 1137 Galway Drive. Medical personnel and police were unable to revive the man, who will not be identified until family members are notified.
Near the man's body, a red Grand Am car had crashed through the fence in front of 1137 Galway, coming to rest in the front yard.
Police detectives and the crime scene van were dispatched to the neighborhood. Galway Drive was closed off with crime scene tape.
A pickup truck in an alley a half-block away was also cordoned off with crime scene tape.
In the news release, police said investigators are questioning two persons of interest.
