A Billings man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly stole a 2014 Dodge Avenger from an Auto Auction employee who was unloading other cars at 4432 South Frontage Road.

Through working with OnStar, Billings police were able to locate the car and the suspect, who was later identified as Michael Swerengin, 38, of Billings. According to police, the car was parked in front of the Wal-Mart at 2225 King Ave. West. When officers approached the vehicle, Swerengin reportedly ran and allegedly tossed a pellet gun from his waistband.

Officer Kodi Kaiser finally tackled Swerengin in front of Applebees, and he was arrested on suspicion of felony theft, resisting arrest, felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs and obstructing a peace officer.

Yellowstone County Detention Facility’s jail roster lists Swerengin as being held on a $1,190 bond. The roster also notes a marijuana possession charge.
